Description

Big Brother and the Holding Company 1967 first pressing on Mainstream Records, featuring Janis Joplin on the band’s landmark debut album.

This is the original 1967 U.S. stereo issue, catalog S/6099, distinguished by the early “Brent Music Corp. – BMI” publishing credit for “Women Is Losers.” That credit was changed on later 1969–70 pressings, making this an important identification point for the original issue.

The deadwax also identifies the pressing through the etched T associated with Columbia’s Terre Haute plant and the stamped Customatrix o.

Condition

  • Vinyl: NM- — exceptionally clean for a 1967 copy
  • Cover: VG+ — attractive overall with a visible mark on the back where a sticker was removed; see photos
  • Inner Sleeve: Generic

Features Janis Joplin on vocals with Peter Albin, David Getz, James Gurley and Sam Andrew.

Includes “Bye, Bye Baby,” “Easy Rider,” “Down on Me,” “Women Is Losers,” “Caterpillar” and “All Is Loneliness.”

Matrix / Runout

  • Side A: T o I KY-504 W3
  • Side B: T o I KY 505 W1
  • Runouts etched except stamped Customatrix o

A particularly clean example of the original 1967 pressing and a significant early document of Janis Joplin’s recording career.
