Description

Steppenwolf Steppenwolf vinyl is represented here by a 1980 U.S. MCA Records Platinum Plus reissue of the band’s landmark 1968 debut album.

This copy is particularly interesting for its transitional packaging. MCA used the earlier DS-50029 jacket, retaining that catalog number on the back and spine, and added the MCA-37045 Platinum Plus gold stamp to the lower-right corner of the front cover. The record itself carries MCA-37045 sky-and-rainbow labels.

The vinyl grades VG++ and has been fully play-tested. Playback is excellent, with the powerful sound this album deserves and only slight surface noise audible during quieter passages.

The cover grades VG+ with visible shelf and edge wear consistent with its age. The original MCA company inner sleeve is included and grades VG++.

Exact matrix/runout information:

Side One: DS – 50029 A WI
Side Two: DS – 50029 B WI
Stamped on both sides: □-G-□

Originally released in 1968, Steppenwolf’s debut combines hard rock, blues and psychedelia and contains two of the band’s defining recordings, “Born to Be Wild” and “The Pusher.”

The album also includes “Sookie Sookie,” “Everybody’s Next One,” “Berry Rides Again,” “Hootchie Kootchie Man,” “Your Wall’s Too High,” “Desperation,” “A Girl I Knew,” “Take What You Need” and “The Ostrich.”

A great-playing copy for someone who values the music and sound quality while also appreciating an interesting MCA reissue variation.
