Led Zeppelin III vinyl marked an important expansion of Led Zeppelin’s sound, combining the band’s formidable electric attack with acoustic, folk and blues influences that would become an essential part of their music.
Released originally in 1970, the album opens with the unmistakable assault of “Immigrant Song,” but quickly moves into considerably different territory. “Friends,” “Gallows Pole,” “Tangerine” and “That’s the Way” reveal the acoustic side of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s songwriting, while “Since I’ve Been Loving You” remains one of the band’s great blues performances.
This copy is a U.S. RCA Music Service reissue, carrying Atlantic catalog number SD 7201 and RCA Music Service number R104162. It was pressed by the RCA Records Pressing Plant in Indianapolis.
The vinyl is the outstanding feature of this example. It has been fully play tested and grades NM, delivering powerful, clear and highly enjoyable playback throughout.
Just as importantly for collectors, the album retains its famous die-cut gatefold cover and rotating wheel. The wheel is complete and operates properly, allowing the images beneath the die-cut openings to be changed as originally designed.
The jacket grades approximately VG to VG+. It shows expected shelf and edge wear along with old sticker/adhesive residue on both the front and back. The residue has intentionally not been removed because additional attempts could cause damage to the printed cover.
The interior gatefold remains attractive and the unusual interactive packaging continues to display extremely well.
