Description
Rolling Stones Big Hits vinyl remains an essential part of any classic-rock collection, and this 1968 U.S. London Records pressing of Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) combines a legendary track list with one of the Stones’ most distinctive album packages.
Originally released in the U.S. in 1966, Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) collects a remarkable run of early Rolling Stones classics including “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “The Last Time,” “As Tears Go By,” “Time Is on My Side,” “It’s All Over Now,” “19th Nervous Breakdown,” “Heart of Stone,” “Get Off of My Cloud,” “Not Fade Away” and “Play with Fire.”
This copy is a later 1960s U.S. London Records pressing, catalog number NPS-1, with dark blue London Stereophonic labels. The labels carry ZAL 7167/8 BW, SIDE ONE and SIDE TWO designations at right, a one-line Andrew Loog Oldham producer credit and the ® symbol following the London logo.
The stamped deadwax inscriptions are:
Side One: ZAL 7167-9
Side Two: ZAL 7168-8
The vinyl has been play tested and grades VG+. Playback remains strong and enjoyable with some audible surface noise.
The distinctive gatefold jacket grades VG++ and presents extremely well. Inside is the album’s attached photographic booklet featuring period images of the band, including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones. The attached booklet/inlay is exceptionally clean and grades approximately NM-.
Also included is a period London Records advertising inner sleeve, featuring contemporary London releases.
The combination of the attractive dark-blue London labels, strong VG+ playback, exceptionally clean gatefold, well-preserved attached booklet and period London advertising sleeve makes this an especially appealing copy for a Rolling Stones collection.
